A mark of enduring strength in its trunk be cast
And as its winter cloak in the warming sun be shed
May it in life and bloom by Spring be led.

Emergent be these thoughts
This wellspring of mind
Expansive treasures of perception
Dark, fertile, alchemic
And thus
The golden light illumes.

The Good Samaritan

Another's need be it shown
To an awakened heart it be known
A call, a plea, this silent longing be it heard
With loving grace a helping hand
Guided by the WORD.

Rose Marie Raccioppi

The Good Samaritan (after Delacroix), Oil on canvas, Saint-Rémy: May, 1890, Vincent Van Gogh, 1853 -1890.

Luke 10:33
"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was:
and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,"

Van Gogh was staying in an institution for the mentally ill when he painted this work, in May 1890. It is a mirrored copy of Eugène Delacroix' Good Samaritan. In July 1890 Van Gogh took his own life.

Know this cresting that be
Turbulent waves in thunderous cry
For all the loss, the tears gone by

Chinese New Year - The Year Of The Tiger

To All of TIGER Birth

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, which commences on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011. The Tiger is the third sign in the Chinese Zodiac cycle, and it is a sign of bravery. This courageous and fiery fighter is admired by the ancient Chinese as the sign that keeps away the three main tragedies of a household. These are fire, thieves and ghosts.

Tigers are physically powerful, gracious, independent and brave, they are extremely bold animals. They are friendly and loving. The Tiger has an overpowering attraction and is very kind and always takes on the character as protector. The Tiger flourishes by power and attention and takes advantage of all circumstances it gets itself into. The Tiger is a natural leader and loves to be the center of attention. As a rebel it goes up against authority and speaks out about wrongs in society, and willingly puts up objections.

Just as how their counterparts in the jungle are impulsive, so too are individuals born in the Chinese Year of the Tiger. When people think of tigers, it is their vigor and power that comes to mind first. But it has also been noted that tigers are known to share and are unselfish animals. The reason people admire the tiger is due to the fact that they are ferocious and domineering on the outside, but they are just as noble and distinguished on the inside. These are the same personality attributes that persons will have who are born in the Year of the Tiger.

People that are born in the Year of the Tiger are generally well liked because of their charismatic personalities. A Tiger is always at their happiest when they endeavor to climb the ladder of success. Attaining the top spot is of foremost purpose; being in a position of power is the ultimate goal. They are quick learners, need to be challenged and often prefer to work alone. Anyone that is born in the Year of the Tiger is usually straightforward and outgoing by nature. They will never give up no matter how challenged they may become. Never lose sight of the fact that Tigers are smart and instinctive.

One and Alone

On this Valentine's Day Eve...

One and Alone

My love in the heavens be
'Tis the moon's light upon the sea
Cresting waves of waters high
Hold the tears of loss gone by
The dawn to awaken ever new
And there in light I with you
One and alone yet not barren of embrace
For in my heart holds our loving grace.

Where Love Is Known, A Saint Valentine's Day Ode

Where love is known
And destiny makes its call
Now I want to take you away
Bring you to that place
Where there are no doubts
Where only conviction and faith preside
Where obstructions are but momentary
That place within my arms
Now I want to take you away
Bring you to that place
Where there are no doubts
Where you feel the vastness and closeness
Where an embrace holds and frees you
Where you live the beauty you are
Where love is known
And destiny makes its call.

Rose Marie Raccioppi

Georgia O’Keeffe', "Red, Yellow and Black Streak," 1924, oil on canvas, 39 3/8 x 31

"The popular customs associated with Saint Valentine's Day undoubtedly had their origin in a conventional belief generally received in England and France during the Middle Ages, that on 14 February, i.e. half way through the second month of the year, the birds began to pair. Thus in Chaucer's Parliament of Foules we read:
For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne's day
Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate.
For this reason the day was looked upon as specially consecrated to lovers and as a proper occasion for writing love letters and sending lovers' tokens." From: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15254a.htm

Wings Forayed

Strife and destruction sound a call
Innocence lost, the child to befall
Young spirit's wings hover in despair
In the earth bound void absent of care
Defiant they be in encounter with another
Little have they learned from a benevolent brother
Young spirit's wings torn and tattered
Innocence violated and shattered
Let us in a call of WISDOM anew
Heed well the toll for what we do
Know that this world amend to be
Is when love be known sea to sea
In Peace and Good Will Spirits soar
Wings forayed need be no more.
