The Artist's Statement Poetically Presented

Is it

Is it brush in hand and thought in heart
From which this painting has its start
Where comes this call I hear as mine
Word, color and form these gifts of time
Is it the Muse that summons the soul
Beauty be the quest, beauty be the goal
And when in completion a work is to be
Is it the Muse I hear in joyful reverie
Is it Truth that anoints each new day
With the knowing path of the spirit's way
Ever present this reach to do and create
Welcome I Truth, the Muse, Destiny and Fate
God be known in what I receive and give
This be the decree for each moment I live
Is it when faith and knowing jointly resound
That God and the Muse so freely are found
So be it brush or pen in heart, mind or hand
It is to be in the Creator's fullest command.

September Morn

Summer's soft and warm blush yet present
Hues of the season to come
The touch of golden light
A melody of Autumn's grace
Heard in whispers new.

Is it a BARD I BE...

Be I a BARD of modern day calling... to convey the glory of Being ~ to live the majesty of Aspiration ~ to know the wondrous in Revelation ~ in all moments present Divine...
In Gratitude

I, Rose Marie Raccioppi, am the first ever to be designated as Poet Laureate for the Town of Orangetown, New York. The designation came from the many presentations I have given over the years as an activist, using originally written poems, by way of introduction or closing, as pleas for attention or support of children's special needs and the environment. Other poems were written and presented in honor of those whose lives were lost serving in the military.

Poems I wrote in response to 9/11 were also presented at both public and private memorial services. These were exhibited at Orangetown Town Hall and at the Legislative Chambers of Rockland County. The poem, "Where Does The Pain Go," in response to 9/11, was made into a musical and dance performance. A reproduction of the original painting upon which the poem was superimposed was presented as a fund raiser. http://www.apogeepoet.blogspot.com/2009/05/where-does-pain-go.html APOGEE Poet: "Where Does The Pain Go - 9/11 ." Another one of my poems, "The Aftermath," engraved in glass superimposed upon my painting, is on permanent display as part of "The Wall of Heroes," at the Rockland County Legislative Chambers, New York.

Since my first community presentation in 1975, as an activist for children with learning disabilities, poetry has been my shared voice of soul. When diagnosed with cancer in 1983, writing poetry became the deepest source of solace and healing. This the journey to, "The Wind and the Willow," published in 2008.

A poetry blog was initiated in January of 2009 and has to date, a posting of 1298 of my original poems, http://www.thepoetspen.com/

It is with a deep respect and reverence for the art of poetry that I am so honored.

The Poet's Pen

in answer to the calling night
be visions and words of light
in answer to the dawning day
be heartfelt expressions of THE WAY
this the poet's pen in questing revelation
this the poet's pen in homage to CREATION
words holding to the grace of rhyme
words in tribute to the gift of time
moments, days, years, decades I have lived
to the poet's pen in gratitude I do give
with pen in hand a knowing be the grace
with word a moment in reflection I to trace
heed the ever present soulful plea
let all be lovingly blessed by THEE.

Socrates... beheld be the poet...

“I decided that it was not wisdom that enabled poets to write their poetry, but a kind of instinct or inspiration, such as you find in seers and prophets who deliver all their sublime messages without knowing in the least what they mean.” ...Socrates

This Poet's Pen

This poet's pen with plea in heart
From which words have their start
A tree, a blossom, a water's flow
These the gifts of grace the poet does know
The music, the wind, a songbird heard
The poet so touched and offers a word
The spirits of song, of dance, of music, of art
From the poet's pen ne'er shall they depart
The muse of all to entreat her pleasure
Words of musing, this poet's treasure.
