On the 8th Day of Christmas...

Traditionally on this day New Year gifts, tokens and well wishes were extended.

Milkmaids and milk remind us of simple daily gifts tied to homestead - Pasture grass turned into daily work, nourishment by the glass, pat of butter, wheel of cheese or community of friends.

On the 8th day of Christmas my true love sent to me

Eight maids a-milking for all to see

The giving and the receiving there be

Beatitudes of eight, the sharing this day

For the generous of heart 'tis the chosen way

The 8th day of Christmas and so it be heard

Matthew 5:3-10.

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,

for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

And so it has come to be known.
