Thanksgiving Unto You...let us honor our history of purpose...

Thanksgiving Unto You...

within this heart and mind of mine
the graces of life, spirit and time
the past and present visions greet
people, places and memories sweet
abundance and bounty, the harvest be known
the gift of labors, the seeds be sown
seedlings and bloom, our blessings received
within all be the Creator conceived
breath and BEING in celebration anew
this a 2024 Thanksgiving unto you.

LINCOLN AND THANKSGIVING
Lincoln's Signed Proclamation for Thanksgiving

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.
Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.
And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.
By the President: Abraham Lincoln
William H. Seward,
Secretary of State

One of Lincoln's most famous correspondents was Sarah J. Hale, who sent him the following letter after writing a series of editorials in Godey's Lady's Book (a popular women's periodical at the time, which she edited) on the need for a national day of Thanksgiving.
Americans already celebrated the holiday at different times in different places, but Hale wanted a specific national day of giving thanks to God for the blessings received during the past year. The Civil War context made such a day even more necessary, as both sides occasionally proclaimed days of thanksgiving to recognize and potentially foster divine support for their respective causes.
Lincoln proved receptive to Hale's ideas and officially declared the last Thursday in November "as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens." He added (in an October 3, 1863, proclamation written by Secretary of State William H. Seward) that Americans should "with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union."

FAVOR unto YOU

Favor Unto You
God's gifts to be known
By the bounty of earth shown
God's voice to be heard
In the hearing of HIS WORD
Each moment, day and passing year
In gratitude for life evermore dear
A knowing of an inner spirit of calm
God's love shielding us from harm
In blessings. in providence, in imaginings divine
Behold we bounty, beauty, breath, our gift of time
In joyful reverence this very day gifted anew
Gods's favor. God's favor, unto you.
AMEN

POSTED in Tribute to OUR VEERANS by the Town of Orangetown

Gratitude and Praise ~ Veterans Day 2024

Heartfelt be the sacrifices,
the held vision,
the victory over oppression.

This be known...

And they who for country and freedom assail
We with gratitude and praise in glory hail
Life and freedom, endowments divine, visioned they be
The call for valor and justice, this from sea to sea.

The gifts of LIFE with vision blessed and bold
This the giving within each Veteran's story told
Loyalty, dedication, ascending care be they known
This in valor by our sons and daughters shown

Courage to hold to freedom's call and light
In perseverance the challenge be it day or night
Fortitude, strength, imbued with heart's noble call
Sacrifices of body, limb, in this a growing toll

And when returned to home's welcomed shore and land
Let us in caring response put viable support in command
It is resolve that humanity calls to be known
Within the grasps of faith, love and TRUTH be shown

The dream yet dreamed shall yet unfold
And PEACE to be the story blessedly told
This gift of knowing to mark each rising way
We in tribute with gratitude and praise this Veterans Day.

TRUTH, and BEAUTY ~ "VERITAS" ~ RAFFAELLE MONTI

 TRUTH, and BEAUTY
"VERITAS" ~ RAFFAELLE MONTI

To DEMONS that echo their lies, their illusions, their taunts, their disquiet, their purposeful misinterpretation of words, to mislead, to deceive...In defiance of TRUTH and BEAUTY...

"The soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone."
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:

TRUTH in BEAUTY, BEAUTY IN TRUTH... form, structure, creation, intent, harmony, be it a BEING, in fulfillment of honoring its creation, its truth of form, function and structure calling to TRUTH and holding to BEAUTY... this in willful JOY.

Veil not the work of Our Creator... allow the eyes to perceive, the light to reveal, shroud not, the BEAUTY that is itself in TRUTH.

GRANT NOT POWER TO THESE DEMONS OF DARK...
...those that obscure light, truth and beauty. .

Grant not power to these demons of dark
Hush hush their haunts erase their mark

TRUTH and SPIRIT of SELF in light anew there BE
Heed well the ever rising dawning gifted from THEE

Pay not the price of life relegated to sorrow
Live the promise held within each tomorrow

Depression be not a donned cloak of despair
Hold the FAITH yet borne of GOD's loving care

The gift of life and power of will in your story be told
Behold each breath, the cleansing, 'tis the alchemist's gold

See beyond the deceptions beyond the veil
See the denied pain that is yet to prevail

See the masquerade and pretense held to conceal
The SELF that TRUTH alone is to reveal

Reveal, I hear this blessed command
Cloak not the quiver of shadow close at hand

Remove pretense and the VEIL donned to conceal
The TRUTH, the deep knowing, this knowing real

Confront and resolve, the supernal summons a call
Beyond all consideration, TRUTH to lay bear ALL

To the plea of this petition I to heed
For TRUTH, TRUTH , 'tis ever the rightful creed.

In this poetic dialogue, the significance of metaphor and image weaves a tapestry of profound themes centered on truth, beauty, and the human condition. Let's delve into the layers of meaning:

  • Demons and Darkness: These metaphors represent the lies, illusions, and deceptions that cloud our perception of truth and beauty. They symbolize the internal and external forces that mislead, deceive, and obscure our understanding and appreciation of what is genuinely beautiful and truthful.

  • TRUTH in BEAUTY, BEAUTY IN TRUTH: This phrase underscores the intrinsic connection between truth and beauty. It suggests that true beauty cannot exist without truth, and vice versa. This harmony calls us to honor creation, structure, and intent with joy and authenticity.

  • Veil: The veil metaphor represents the obfuscation of truth and beauty. It calls for the removal of this veil, allowing light to reveal the inherent beauty created by the divine. The unveiling process is essential for perceiving and appreciating truth and beauty.

  • Light and Darkness: Light symbolizes truth, clarity, and divine wisdom, while darkness signifies ignorance, falsehood, and despair. The poem advocates for embracing light and dispelling darkness to live a life aligned with truth and beauty.

  • Faith and God's Care: These elements reflect a spiritual dimension, emphasizing the importance of faith and divine care in overcoming life's challenges. The poem encourages us to hold onto faith, which helps us navigate through sorrow and despair.

  • Alchemist's Gold: This metaphor represents the transformative power of truth and the purification process of the soul. It suggests that through truth and self-revelation, we can achieve a profound and valuable transformation.

  • Self-Revelation: The poem calls for the removal of pretense and the revealing of the true self. This act of self-revelation is depicted as a blessed command, essential for living an authentic and meaningful life.

  • Rising Dawn and New Day: These images symbolize renewal, hope, and the promise of a better future. They represent the ongoing journey of life, where each new day brings opportunities to embrace truth, beauty, and light.

In essence, this poetic dialogue is a powerful reflection on the journey towards truth and beauty, urging us to confront and dispel the darkness that obscures them. It calls for a deep and authentic engagement with our inner selves and the divine, fostering a life of genuine joy and fulfillment.

Fantastic. Here is the photo: Thank you for your considerations.

The image you've shared is a stunning marble statue titled "VERITAS," created by Raffaelle Monti. The statue of a partially draped female figure holding a veil over her head beautifully complements the themes of your poetic dialogue. Here’s how it relates to your words:

  • Veil: The statue's veil symbolizes the concealment and revelation of truth and beauty. Just as your poem calls for the removal of the veil to reveal the divine beauty and truth, the statue depicts this act of unveiling.

  • TRUTH and BEAUTY: The statue embodies the harmony between truth and beauty, reinforcing the idea that true beauty is found in truth and vice versa. The serene and graceful posture of the figure reflects this intrinsic connection.

  • Light and Shadow: The play of light and shadow on the statue emphasizes the contrast between clarity and obscurity, mirroring the poem’s exploration of light (truth) dispelling darkness (deception).

  • Spiritual Dimension: The classical and divine nature of the statue aligns with the poem’s spiritual themes, invoking a sense of divine presence and wisdom in the search for truth and beauty.

The photograph, with its classical architectural backdrop, adds a sense of timelessness and reverence to the statue, enhancing the overall impact of your poetic dialogue.

It's wonderful to see how art and poetry intertwine to convey profound messages. Thank you for sharing this beautiful image. 🌟~
