The Music, The Music... Bach - Cello Suite No.1 i-Prelude

1748 Portrait of Johann Sebastian Bach at 63 (Source: The Face of Bach)

The Music The Music

resounding voices of spirit be heard
the knowing of soul and the glory of THE WORD
strings touched by faith and devotion of BEING true
and known be the majesty of music on to you
the MUSE claims the heart and the quest divine
the music the music made yours made mine.

Rose Marie Raccioppi

The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. If heed is not paid to this, it is not true music but a diabolical bawling and twanging.
Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685-1750.

Johann Sebastian Bach, 21 March 1685 – 28 July 1750, was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity.

"a diabolical bawling and twanging" why does that sound like so much of the music I've heard since the 1970s? Having always had the ability to hear, to not be able to hear music would be a catastrophe...

Theanne, I so appreciate and indeed share your sense of music intended to produce 'riot' 'rebellion' - "a diabolical bawling and twanging" this so much the wisdom expressed by Bach - music to be the sounding of gifts in celebration. Even the popular music of 'my young days' of the 40's is ever heard with joy - Oh Frankie! XOXOX
