John Cage "4'33" ~ In the Deepest of Silence

In the deepest of silence I am heard
the pulsing
the heart rhythms
the breath
this inner orchestration
the voice of thought
the cry of despair
the scream of fear
the whimper of pain
the call of soul
in the deepest of silence I am heard.

I "listened" to the entire video and was struck by the discipline of the orchestra and conductor. What came to mind was a line from the Desiderata, Max Ehrmann (1872-1945) "Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence." There is very little silence in the world today...when we find it, it is a blessed event because we are able to do what your poem states...hear our inner most being.

Theanne, So much is revealed to oneself when assuming purposeful silence - just the listening to SELF. Pleased you were able to 'listen' with pleasure.

Oh the calm before the storm, and so too the relief after the surge - the energy, the exhaustion, the truth, the lies, the deafening silence of one's soul as it emerges and for a moment or an eternity we know.

love Gail
peace....

Gail, The Silent Presentation here posted, with an entire Orchestra, is an impressive metaphor. Indeed to remind us of the, "silence of one's soul as it emerges."

At first I thought something was wrong with my computer again but then I realized that you are supposed to just sit still and be silent- i was surprised that I was able to do this and to experience this along with everyone on the you tube. Some how I felt connected to others just being silent.
