Shakespeare Be My Brother

Shakespeare be my brother this very night
As words free and in frolic take flight
Words of anguish, fear and pain
Words of illusion and the inane
Words to claim my longings and desire
Words to breathe these thoughts of fire
For words within the mind conceived
Create the world for us perceived
Recorded in prose, poetry and rhyme
To give purpose to life's gift of time
Words to serve intent and pleasure
Held in journals as one's life treasure
Words of moments present, moments past
And within a recorded history cast
Of all the words I in quest to heed
Silent utterances of TRUTH and sacred creed.

Rose Marie Raccioppi

"It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves."
William Shakespeare William Shakespeare -
Invitation Card, Wood engraving on brown paper, 1850, Ford Madox Brown, 1821-1893.

And in reflection: "Know Thyself" Temple of Apollo at Delphi

The more I read Shakespeare, the more I realize that in a poet's heart is ever the search for understanding, beauty and purpose. If we are open to explore the poet's pondering of heart, we will hear the questing echoes of soul.
"All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages."

William Shakespeare, As You Like It, Act II, Scene 7, ...published, 1623.

Imagine the engagement of heart, soul, spirit in words of praise, in words of reflection, in words of sacred creed. Imagine "know thyself" a pursuit of love, of faith, of spirit, of GOD. I envision and currently launching, "The APOGEE Players" and The APOGEE Theater of Success." All conflicts, complexities, frustrations, the rants of suppression, anger, guilt, repression, have been recorded by Shakespeare and can be referenced for all needs of the "psyche." Imagine instead of psychotropic medication provide we Shakespearean contemplation!

HI ROSEMARIE

Every word in your peom is truth, told and yet to be told, felt and yet to be felt, known and yet to be known, feared and yet to be feared, painful and yet to be painful, joyous and yet to be joyous, loved and yet to be loved and on and on...............this is a master - piece that gives honor. YOU are honor.

Gail, There was something exceeding special about the inspiration for this poem. I felt a connection beyond time and space, with so many of the great thinkers, writers, and philosophers. The WORD as it is presented in the Bıble, the ancient writings, the words of Shakespeare, reflecting God and the "psyche." The dramas of misunderstanding, of suppression, of ignorance are to be replaced by a knowing that is TRUTH, that is FAITH, that is LOVE. So shall it BE.

Happy for your return. I had checked in a number of times and hoped all was well. Good to have you back. I will look forward to our visits once again. Are you in your Springtime?

Rain, Well as you know I did "check it out." Funny, but your statement, "I am a Shakespeare fan and often thought I belonged in his era of prose!" applies, applies, applies to yours truly! I am on FaceBook and found myself replying to posts as if Shakespeare were dictating the words. A flow of poetic responses came forth. The inspiration I felt the whole day through led to, "Shakespeare Be My Brother." So as posted on your blog we are now officially, "The Shakepearean Sisterhood."

Hi Rose Marie! I giggled with joy reading your reply and your comment today!! Shakesperean Sisterhood, I am a proud member of our duo!!! You know, a change of scenery, a change of society more likely...has changed me. Things I used to love and hobbies I really enjoyed, they are all coming back to me so quickly and I want to try everything again! You know, I haven't even had the desire to write a poem in decades...and I really used to enjoy it. I also was a Shakespeare nut in college and couldn't read his plays enough for my liking. The years on meds from the burnout has wreaked (wruck?) havoc on my long term memory, but the desire to read and write again is still there. I'll be back at university in January - my goal is still a physics degree, but the introductory courses I need to take aren't offered until the fall of 2010, so I'll be entering as an English Literature major, I hope I can take a course that offers some Shakespeare!
:-)
