The Spirit of '76 - From the Heart of Freedom

The ravages of suppression known and heard
So from the heart of Freedom came each word
The First Amendment so marked to portray
That man free of oppression be the chosen way
In Freedom’s light and with Freedom’s call
Dignity of expression a right granted all
And if with doubt and query new
A forum open for a challenged view
Hold these words as Freedom’s choice
Let not Truth be a silenced voice.

Espression of words is a beautiful thing. Whether written on paper or expressed in words. That is Freedom!

Wonderful Rose Marie! "Let not Truth be a silenced voice"...that moved me to tears...I feel so lucky to live in Canada and am a proud Canadian. I know you feel the same way about being an American. We have the freedoms that others can't even conceive, and I'm so grateful. Happy Independence Day to you!!!

WELL! WELL Dave that's a valued accolade and one rightfully bestowed onto you as well.

Yes, Choices - our right of expression is indeed our Freedom.

Rain, I feel your liberating quest - each of your mountain adventures speak to freedom's call.

Hi Rose Marie:

Beautifully expressed--I agree with Dave-- your metrical sense is unerring. Happy 4th!

I have to chime in with Dave and John; I am envious of your precision with meter also. The poem is a wonderful tribute to the spirit of your country and its people.
( As a girl, I was in the U.S. for the Bicentennial. My father had an assortment of 1776-1976 souvenirs.)

Brian, John and Kat,

How privileged we are to be free to express and have our words travel cyberspace and instantly arrive. What a marvel, I often think. Thank you for sharing such wonder, words, images, intentions, the creative doings of mind, heart and spirit.
